David Holcomb’s 25 years of practicing facial plastic surgery in Sarasota, recognizing a career defined by surgical innovation, aesthetic expertise and dedicated service to patients throughout the region. Dr. Holcomb, the practice’s Medical Director, is double board-certified in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Holcomb earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine in 1992. He then completed seven years of postgraduate training at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, including a general surgery internship, a National Institutes of Health fellowship and a residency in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. Drawn to the reconstructive and cosmetic dimensions of head and neck surgery, Dr. Holcomb completed a fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery through the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He has served on the medical staff at Sarasota Memorial Hospital since establishing his local practice.

His early experience treating complex conditions affecting the face, head and neck helped shape the philosophy he brings to aesthetic surgery today. Dr. Holcomb approaches cosmetic facial surgery as form of “aesthetic facial reconstruction,” requiring a detailed understanding of facial anatomy, structure,
proportion and function combined with careful aesthetic judgment. That perspective is central to his work in rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty. These procedures require balancing aesthetic refinement with healthy breathing and long-term function while carefully working with the nose’s skin, cartilage and bone. Revision rhinoplasty can be particularly complex because the surgeon must account for changes caused by previous procedures and the presence of scar tissue.

Dr. Holcomb applies the same thoughtful approach to vertical facelift surgery, neck lifting and other facial rejuvenation procedures. His goal is to help each patient achieve a natural, refreshed appearance that reflects how they feel without changing the features that make them recognizable. “Many patients tell us they want to look as young as they feel,” Dr. Holcomb said. “Our role is to listen carefully, understand what they hope to achieve and develop a thoughtful plan that respects their individual features. Throughout his career, Dr. Holcomb has maintained a strong interest in aesthetic laser and energy-based technologies, using surgical, nonsurgical and minimally invasive treatments to address concerns including sun damage, wrinkles, skin laxity and excess facial or neck fat.

In 2008, he co-developed AccuLift^®, a minimally invasive, laser-assisted facial contouring procedure designed to reduce jowl fat and improve lower-face definition. He has also served as a clinical investigator in U.S. Food and Drug Administration studies involving aesthetic drugs and devices, including Letybo^® neurotoxin and Renuvion^® helium plasma technology.

Dr. Holcomb continues to evaluate emerging platforms, including InMode’s QuantumRF device and Acclaro Medical’s UltraClear laser. QuantumRF enables precise contouring of the jawline, neck and area beneath the chin, while UltraClear may address pigmentation, scars and wrinkles. Depending on the
patient’s needs, these technologies may complement facial procedures to create a customized treatment plan. Together, these options expand the range of surgical and nonsurgical facial rejuvenation approaches. This experience across surgical, minimally invasive and nonsurgical facial rejuvenation gives patients access to a broader range of options. Dr. Holcomb is a past president of both the Sarasota County Medical Society and the Florida Society of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
